Week 5 - Wikis

Wikis great for staff to use to enhance that customer service...check out
Grand Rapids Public Library wiki, looks really useful for customers

http://www.grpl.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page,

covering readers resources (fiction)

e.g. http://www.grpl.org/wiki/index.php/Chick_Lit

to resources by topic (non-fiction)

e.g. http://www.grpl.org/wiki/index.php/Food

I guess the challenge for Manukau Libraries to do something like this would be people resources and/or time to set this up and keep it current. Wikis probably work well if you have to be a registered user to edit rather than open to all to edit.

Well have only just begun to explore wikis...but some ideas for our library could be...

...maybe a library wiki for such things as Manix, where teens can add in their book reviews, hot books etc.

...maybe a wiki for the children's/YA librarians where they could post activity/event ideas that worked well or didn't work well to share with each others.

...what about a wiki for on useful/interesting/relevant articles/books/websites read or found e.g. about customer service, team day ideas, great public library innovations etc

Week 3 - Rollyo

Well finally done it! Really had to ponder over the instructions...tried to follow the instructions given on week 4 no. 9 but just didn't quite get there...so after some exploring managed to deliver. For those like me ...when you get to instruction 9 once you have logged into your blog...

9. click on layout
10. click on page elements
11. click on add a gadget
12. a popup box comes on the screen, scroll down to HTML/Javascript
13. click on the + sign (top right hand corner)
14. a pop up box called configure HTML?Javascript appears
15. go back to the original instructions and follow number 12 - 16 to complet the exercise.

Hope this helps a fellow techno beginner like me.

Week 4 - Flickr

Sorry, we don't have ostriches in the library...but aren't they cute and only 5 days old. If you don't have photo editing software use flickr and picnik...real easy to edit your photos!
